Welcome
Multicultural Women's Organization of Newfoundland & Labrador (MWONL) established in a church basement 37 years ago, at a very small scale initiated by some volunteer multicultural women, to connect multicultural newcomer women who were feeling isolated in St. John's and surrounding area and reduce social isolation. There's been a slow and steady increase in the capacity building of this organiztion, and now in 2025, MWONL consists of 11 volunteer board of directors and 6 employed staff that represent diversity in various ethnocultural groups, many who are representative of the newcomer population themselves.
MWONL serves over 400 members from over 40 countries. Our uniqueness is based on its gender-specific mandate. The organization delivers programs and services to multicultural and newcomer women and their families in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. MWONL focuses on the unique concerns and needs of this demographic and recognizes and responds accordingly. We developed innovative programs while establishing and maintaining meaningful partnerships with various organizations. MWONL offers programs and services to assist and support women with diverse backgrounds in the areas of social integration, economic independence, leadership quality development, violence prevention and awareness, teaching basic English language conversation skills, employment readiness, individual social work support, and health and wellness.
